What do you need to do?

Hearing protection

  • Personal hearing protection should be used where extra protection is needed above what can be achieved using noise-control, and as a short-term measure while permanent solutions are being sought
  • Personal hearing protection must be used where necessary to eliminate or reduce the risk to hearing
  • Users or their representatives should be involved in the selection
  • Training should promote the use of hearing protection if it is required and management should ensure it is properly used
  • A broad range of different hearing protection products are available offering effective and suitable protection for most performance environments

Personal hearing protection should:

  • control the risk
  • not over-protect
  • be comfortable and suitable for the working environment
  • Be properly used
  • Be worn whenever there is a noise hazard present
  • Be readily available to all who need it
  • Be properly maintained
